How to make your first sale

Not sure how to accept a payment from a customer? Whether you're entering a single amount or adding multiple items to the same sale, this guide will show you how to take payment, add sales details and access your receipts afterwards.

Taking a single amount transaction

If you're simply charging your customer a single amount, follow these steps:

  1. Tap New Sale.
  2. Enter the amount you'd like to charge.
  3. Tap Charge.
  4. Choose the customer's payment method, like Card or Cash.
  5. If you'd like, add a tip before completing the payment.
  6. Tap Proceed to Payment.
  7. Ask your customer to tap, insert or swipe their card.

Once the payment has been approved, you'll be taken to the transaction summary screen.

From here, you can:

  • Print receipts for both your customer and yourself.
  • Generate a QR code for your customer to scan and view their receipt.
  • Share the receipt using one of the available options, like email.

When you're finished, tap Done to return to the home screen.

Viewing your completed transaction

Every successful payment is automatically saved in your Sales History, making it easy to look up previous transactions whenever you need to.

To view a transaction:

  1. Open Sales History.
  2. Select the transaction you'd like to view.

You'll be able to see important information, including:

  • The original transaction amount.
  • Any tip that was added.
  • The total amount paid.
  • The payment status.
  • Receipt options.

You can also view or share the receipt directly from this screen without needing to process the transaction again.

Taking a transaction with multiple items

If your customer is purchasing several items, you can build the sale by adding each item individually before taking payment. This gives you a clearer breakdown of the sale and lets you make changes before your customer pays.

Add items to the sale

  1. Tap New Sale.
  2. Enter the amount for your first item.

If you'd like to keep additional records, you can also add Sales Details, including:

  • A staff member's name.
  • A sales reference, such as an order number or invoice number.

These details will be saved with the transaction, making it easier to identify later.

Once you've entered your first item:

  1. Tap Save.
  2. Tap the + button to add another item.
  3. Enter the amount for the next item.
  4. Repeat until you've added everything to the sale.

As you continue adding items, the running total is updated automatically. Once you've added more than one item, the Charge button changes to Review Cart, allowing you to check the sale before taking payment.

Review and edit your cart

Before your customer pays, tap Review Cart to make sure everything looks correct.

The cart gives you a complete overview of the sale, including:

  • Every item you've added.
  • The total amount to be charged.
  • The staff member assigned to the sale.
  • The sales reference.

You can also make changes without having to start over.

From the cart, you can:

  • Edit an item's price.
  • Rename an item.
  • Increase or decrease quantities.
  • Update the staff member's name.
  • Edit the sales reference.

Once you're happy with everything, tap Charge.

Complete the payment

To finish the sale:

  1. Choose the customer's payment method.
  2. Add a tip if required.
  3. Tap Proceed to Payment.
  4. Ask your customer to tap, insert or swipe their card.

After the payment has been approved, you'll have the same receipt options available as you do for a single amount transaction. You can print it if you have an iK Flyer or email, view and share the receipt digitally.

Tap Done when you're ready to return to the home screen.

Finding your transaction later

Every completed sale is stored in Sales History, giving you a full record of your transactions.

Opening a transaction lets you view all the important details, including:

  • Whether the payment was approved.
  • The payment method used.
  • Receipt number.
  • Staff member assigned to the sale.
  • Sales reference.
  • An itemised breakdown of the sale.
  • Item quantities.
  • Subtotal.
  • Tip amount.
  • Total amount paid.

If you added a sales reference, such as an order number, it'll also appear in your transaction history. This makes it much easier to identify the right transaction when you need to look it up or resend a receipt.
